In Spain, Lionel Messi fired a brace as FC Barcelona recorded a 3-2 win over Athletic Bilbao. Bilbao took a third-minute lead through Inaki Williams, but Pedri leveled and Messi scored either side of the interval and also struck the woodwork twice.

In Italy, Juventus closed the gap between them and leaders AC Milan after beating them 3-1 in their clash staged at San Siro on Wednesday.
Federico Chiesa was the star man as he scored twice after Milan's Davide Calabria had restored matters in the game with Weston McKennie scoring Juve’s other goal; the win seeing the gap between them and Milan reduce to seven.
