LaLiga clash pitting Atletico Madrid vs Athletic Bilbao has been called off due to disruptions from a snowstorm in Spain.
Madrid was set to host Bilbao at Wanda Metropolitano today but the game has been postponed to a later date following a strong storm that prevented the Basque players from traveling to Madrid.
"The match that we were supposed to play today against Athletic Club at the Wanda Metropolitano (set for 16:15) has been postponed due to the snowstorm installed in much of the peninsula," a statement from Madrid read.
"The inclement weather prevented the expedition of the Basque team from traveling to Madrid due to the temporary closure of the Madrid-Barajas Adolfo Suárez Airport and, in addition, the travel of our team, referees and club staff to the stadium was not guaranteed safe due to the poor condition of the roads in the Community of Madrid."
La Liga said it sought the postponement "given the exceptional situation caused by the storm across and the impossibility of having the pitch in optimal condition.
