A host of games was played in the Third Round of the FA Cup with Arsenal and Manchester United being among the teams that made it to the next round after hard-fought wins.
United had Scott McTominay to thank as his earlier goal was enough to see United through against a Stubborn Watford side with Arsenal, who were at the Emirates, forced to go on to extra time to find two goals against Newcastle United.
But how did other games on Saturday go?
Brentford v Middlesbrough
In a battle of the Championship teams, Brentford took a tenth-minute lead through Halil Dervişoğlu but visitors Boro equalized in the second half through Sam Folarin. Saman Ghoddos then came what proved to be a winner for the Bees in the 64th minute.
Manchester United v Watford
United who had made wholesome changes going into the game took a fifth-minute lead through Scott McTominay who was the day’s captain; the only goal in the game but the Ole Gunnar Solskjaer side were given a scare when defender Eric Bailly had to be withdrawn minutes to the half time break after a clash with his keeper Dean Henderson.
Blackpool v West Brom
The shock of the day came on Bloomfield Road where Blackpool eliminated Premier League side, West Brom, from the competition via post-match penalties following a 2-2 draw in regular time.
Jerry Yates had given the home side a deserving lead but the baggies restored parity through defender Semi Ajayi. Blackpool once again took the lead in the second half through Gary Madine but West Brom equalized again ten minutes from time through Matheus Pereira’s penalty. Perreira however was to miss the decisive penalty as the Sam Allardyce side were bundled out of the competition.
