Arsenal defender Sokratis Papastathopoulos is being linked with a move to Laliga with Real Betis said to be interested in his services.
The Greek international was linked with a move away from the Emirates in the summer but a deal didn’t materialize with the player, not in Mikel Arteta’s plans for the new season.
Betis, now managed by former Manchester City coach Manuel Pellegrini’s are in the market for a defender with the club linked with a series of defensive targets with tbrfootball.com now reporting that Sokratis is part of the players the club want to bring.
While Betis wants the player, their worry lies in his wages with the defender said to be getting £100,000 per week salary at Arsenal; Betis hoping that the player can reduce his wage demands if he is to cross over to Laliga.
Arsenal too wants a fee close to £17m if they are to let the player leave; this being the sum they paid for the defender when they roped him from Dortmund back in 2018.
Sokratis Papastathopoulos will decide soon his next destination, Genoa and Fenerbahçe have asked for the Greek centre back. Both clubs are pushing to sign him - he’s leaving Arsenal in the next weeks. 🇬🇷 #AFC #transfers @SkySport https://t.co/hziEmFylKH— Fabrizio Romano (@FabrizioRomano) January 5, 2021
