Serie A giants AS Roma have rejected a bid from English Premier League side West Ham United for goalkeeper Pau Lopez.
According to forzaroma.info, the Hammers made a loan bid for the goalkeeper with an obligation to buy based on meeting certain criteria but Roma has turned down the bid as they consider the keeper a vital part of the club.
Should he join West Ham, Lopez who lost his starting place to veteran stopper Antonio Mirante will be in a familiar surrounding having featured for Tottenham Hotspur as a loanee.
The Spaniard joined the Serie A side from Real Betis in the summer transfer window of 2019 for a reported €23.5 million and made 42 appearances in all competitions last season for Paulo Fonseca’s side.
It is not the first time the David Moyes side has been linked with a move for Lopez. The London-based side asked about the player last summer with Newcastle United being the other team that was linked with the player.
West Ham is believed to be looking for a long-term replacement for first-choice keeper Lukasz Fabianski who is now 35 with his backup options Darren Randolph and David Martin being 33 and 34 respectively.
