Barcelona Presidential elections that were slated for January 24, 2020, might be postponed to a later date.
The move, according to La Porteria, is due to a recent upsurge in COVID-19 cases in the country with Spain being one of the most hit with a severe second wave of the Coronavirus.
The surge is still not considered strong enough to stop Llaiga games as clubs and the country’s health officials feel that there are proper measures put in place to contain players and officials from various clubs.
That however can’t be said of processes like elections which are expected to draw thousands of the club fans to a central place.
The elections that were slated later this month are in place as Barca is set to replace long-serving President Josep Bartomeu who resigned from his post late last year; Victor Font and Joan Laporta remaining the favorites for the seat.
Joan Laporta: “The elections must be held [on 24th], and with all the corresponding safety and health measures and protocols. Barcelona must mobilize in favor of the elections without any interference with the intentions of postponing/suspending them” #ElectionsFCB 🗳⛔️
