Barcelona captain Lionel Messi is fighting to be fit for their Sunday Supercopa de Espana a final against Athletic Bilbao.
The Argentine has featured in all the club finals since missing their Club World Cup clash in 2006 against Brazilian side Internacional with the player playing in all of their previous 27 finals.
According to Marca, Messi picked a knock last weekend and is racing against time to be fit for the Sunday clash as Ronald Koeman looks to win his first accolade for the team since taking over in the summer.
Messi picked up a complaint in the back of his thigh against Granada and sat out in the club’s semi-final clash with Real Sociedad. The Argentine is set to travel with the team as he doesn’t want to miss Barcelona’s first final since May of 2019 and even attended the team's Saturday training session.
Lionel Messi completed all the exercises in the training session without any problem. Depending on the sensations, it will be decided whether he plays from the start, is benched, or rests.
