🇧🇷 Reinier Jesus: Profiling Real Madrid's talented Brazilian on loan in Dortmund

Big things are expected of Brazilian midfielder Reinier Jesus, on the books of Real Madrid but spending the 2020-21 & 2021-22 seasons on loan with Borussia Dortmund.

Reinier has featured four times in the Bundesliga this season, having to play second-fiddle to fellow youngster Giovanni Reyna in the attacking midfield role. He might have to bide his time before he gets regular minutes on the pitch, but his talent is not in doubt.

📚 Story

Reinier is the son of former futsal player Mauro Brasília. He joined the youth academy of Vasco da Gama in 2011 before moving on to further his football education at the academies of Botafogo, Fluminense and then Flamengo. He made his professional debut for Rio de Janeiro-based Flamengo in July 2019 at the age of 17.

In January of 2020, Real Madrid came calling and parted with 35m to secure his services on the day after his 18th birthday, although he was immediately assigned to the Real Madrid Castilla squad. Even at his tender age, Jesus is already a Copa Libertadores winner after Flamengo defeated River Plate in the 2019 showpiece. He captained the Brazil U17 side at the 2019 South American championships in Peru but is now part of the Seleção U23 setup.

📊 Reinier Jesus Carvalho bio

  • ✅ DOB: 19 January 2002
  • ✅ Height: 185cm
  • ✅ Position: Attacking midfielder
  • 👀 Plays like: A cross between Kaká & Rivaldo

🎨 Style

Jesus is a tall, elegant, technically-gifted player. He stamps his authority on matches in the final third with decisive passing, through-balls and assured finishing. He can be wasteful in possession at times but much of that is owing to his tendency to take risks on the ball. Also, despite his height, he's not particularly good in the air.

🤙 Brazilian connection at the Bernabéu

Real Madrid hasn't been shy to invest heavily in young Brazilian talent, with their three recent teenage acquisitions costing roughly €125m. When Reinier eventually returns to his parent club, he'll surely feel right at home with plenty of compatriots by his side.

  • 🇧🇷 Vinícius Júnior - €45 million
  • 🇧🇷 Rodrygo Goes - €45 million
  • 🇧🇷 Reinier Jesus - €35 million

Reinier will be hoping to be in contention for some game-time during Borussia Dortmund's frenetic schedule at the start of 2021 where they'll be challenging on three fronts.
