Bayern Munich will be replacing the departing David Alaba with French defender Dayot Upamecano.
The Bavarians are willing to trigger the €42.5m release clause in Upamecano’s contract according to German publication BILD via Bavaria Football as they seek to revamp their defensive unit.
Apart from Alaba, the club is expected to lose the services of German defender Jérôme Boateng with these moves leaving them short in defense. The absence of the duo leaves Niklas Süle as the other obvious center-back at the club with Lucas Hernandez the other expected to step in should the central defenders be out with injuries.
Benjamin Pavard has only ever been used at right-back under Hansi Flick and might be forced to convert as a center back if Bayern cant get their targets a move that forces the European giants to make a center back their top priority in the summer.
Bayern knows that they are not the only team in Europe interested in the 22-year-old RB Leipzig center back with Manchester United, Liverpool and Chelsea all said to have enquired about the player.
The Bundesliga giants however will have to sell a few players in order to fund the move with reports rife that Corentin Tolisso might be sold in the summer together Michaël Cuisance who is currently on loan at Marseille.
