Southampton secured a point following a 1-1 draw with Chelsea in a Premier League game staged at St. Mary's Stadium.
Soton took the lead through Minamino who is on loan from Liverpool. Ward-Prowse and Redmond exchanged passes on halfway before the latter split open the Chelsea defense with a gorgeous pass for Minamino. And the on-loan Liverpool forward kept his cool to dummy Mendy, who he sat down on the floor, before calmly rolling the ball into the gaping goal for his second Southampton goal already.
In the second half, Chelsea were awarded a penalty as Ings chopped down Mason Mount in the box. There was a VAR check, but only briefly as that is a nailed-on spot-kick.
Mount kept his cool from the spot to send McCarthy the wrong way, with the ball being slid into the right-n corner of the net.
- Southampton ended a run of six successive Premier League defeats, the club’s worst losing run in their Football League history, since winning 1-0 against Liverpool on January 4th.
- Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel is the 16th manager in Premier League history to avoid defeat in his first six games in the competition (W4 D2) and the first since Maurizio Sarri in September 2018, also with the Blues.
