Aston Villa 1-2 Leicester: Foxes win at Villa Park to move second, maintain CL push

Leicester City moved second in the English Premier League standings after a comfortable 2-1 win at Aston Villa on Sunday afternoon.

The Foxes were third in the table going into the match, and they did well to win their ninth match on the road out of 13 to keep their Champions League hopes alive.

James Madison and Harvey Barnes scored for the Foxes, with Bertrand Traore scoring for Villa.

Villa got the first chance to take the lead in the 17th minute, but Traore missed a good chance after an inch-perfect cross was delivered into the box.

They were meant to pay two minutes later as the visitors took the lead after Maddison nicely controlled the ball on the edge of the box after a superb low pass by Barnes, and he fired a wonderful strike into the bottom right corner.

Leicester then came close to scoring twice in quick succession, forcing Emiliano Martinez into world-class saves to deny Barnes and Jamie Vardy.

The pressure was too much for the hosts and lack of concentration led to Leicester's second, and it was Barnes who tucked it in.

Bertrand then halved Villa's deficit three minutes after the restart, and it seemed they could push Leicester to the last whistle.

It however proved to be a consolation as Brenda Rodgers' men held on to pick maximum points, which moved his side above Man United in the standings, cutting Man City's lead to seven points.

The League leaders are in action though and could regain their 10-point lead if they win against Arsenal at the Emirates.
