Lazio 1-4 Bayern Munich: Defending Champions make light work of their Italian opponents

Bayern Munich have one leg into the next round of the Champions League after beating Lazio 4-1 in Rome on Tuesday night.

Having won the FIFA Club World Cup earlier in the month, Bayern knew well that another win in the competition would have handed them the opportunity of defending their title in the coming year. And the seriousness was shown when they opened the scoring proceedings in the ninth minute through Robert Lewandowski.

The Bundesliga giants didn’t seem to miss some of their established players Musiala, who was starting his first Champions League game, doubling their lead in the 24th minute after some good work from Alphonso Davies and Goretzka; an early birthday present for the English forward who turns 18 on Friday.

Lazio, who were the home team, had grown into the game and while they failed to utilize their chances, Bayern was to add a third three minutes to the breakthrough Leroy Sane. Kingsley Coman ran away down the left like lightning after another Lazio error, twisted his way past the Lazio defence before releasing a shot that was parried by keeper Pepe Reina, up stepped Sane to tap in the rebound.

There was a flurry of quick goals minutes after the resumption when  Acerbi turning the ball into his own net for Bayern’s fourth just two minutes after the break with Correa pulling one back for Lazio two minutes later after being teed by Luis Alberto.
