Laliga giants FC Barcelona have elected Joan Laporta as their new club president.
Laporta garnered about 58% of the votes with his closest challenger Victor Font coming second with roughly 31% of the votes; the 58-year-old returning to the club after being in charge of the club’s golden era from 2003 to 2010.
During the seven years of his presidency, the first team achieved two Champions Leagues, four league championships, a Copa del Rey, a Club World Cup, a European Super Cup, three Spanish Super Cups and three Spanish Cups.
Font and Toni Freixa both congratulated Laporta with the former President already spotted celebrating with Socios already.
The vocal president had promised a series of things during his campaigns with Jordi Cruyff expected to arrive in Barcelona on Wednesday as Laporta’s sporting director.
His first task will to ensure that captain Lionel Messi remains at the club with the club hoping that he can sort their financial and sporting problems.
