Aston Villa captain Jack Grealish will not be available when his team comes up against Jose Mourinho’s Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday.
Grealish was expected to return to action this weekend but the Daily Mail reports that the midfielder is set to delay his return from injury until after the international break.
The player has missed the club’s last five games with a shin problem and is close to fitness but it is understood that he prefers to wait an extra fortnight so he is 100 percent ready when his side faces Fulham on April 3.
Villa who is chasing for a European spot is four points behind Tottenham, with a game in hand, and a victory over Mourinho's side would take them to within two points of sixth-placed Liverpool.
The news of Grealish's absence should be a reprieve for Mourinho who is under intense pressure from the club’s board after being eliminated from the UEFA Europa League by managerless Dinamo Zagreb on Thursday.
Manchester City have emerged as favourites to sign Jack Grealish this summer. The Aston Villa captain is understood to be excited about a move to Pep's team. (Source: Mail online) pic.twitter.com/jWnDwvcAgE— Transfer News Live (@DeadlineDayLive) March 18, 2021
