English Premier League giants Manchester United have begun new contract talks with striker Edinson Cavani.
Cavani joined United as a free agent last summer on a one-year deal with the option to extend for another year but after having a good start to life in England, United believes the player still has a lot to offer for the team as they aim to compete for the league title.
The Mail had earlier reported that the Uruguayan is considering leaving the club but United are doesn’t want to lose his leadership skills as they feel their young strikers can learn a thing or two from the player.
The player has previously been linked with a move to Boca Juniors with his father revealing that he wasn’t happy in England. The striker is also understood to have been left unhappy by his treatment from the Football Association, who banned him for three games earlier in the campaign for use of potentially racially offensive language on social media.
United want to add a new striker to the team too something that Cavani isn’t happy about as he feels that his six goals and two assists in just nine league starts is enough for the club to trust him with leading their attack but the manager is worried about his fitness issues that ahs hindered his outing this season.
Cavani is expected to lead United’s attack in their weekend game against Brighton as both Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial are racing against time to be fit for the tie.
