Uruguayan midfielder Lucas Torreira is almost certainly not returning to continue his football career in North London next season.
As previously reported here on Futaa, Torreira, who joined the Gunners for €28,65m from Sampdoria in 2018 under former manager Unai Emery, sent a plea to Arsenal’s current manager Mikel Arteta that he wants to return to South America.
The 25-year-old combative midfielder, who got loaned to Atletico Madrid in Spain until the end of the season, has since applied newer pressure on Arsenal’s decision-makers.
Lucas Torreira to @federicobulos: “I want to go to Boca Juniors now. I am 25 years old and I know it’s a club that plays for great targets. I’d like to make the fans happy... but I know it's not easy. Boca should reach an agremeent with Arsenal for a one-year loan”. 🔴 #AFC #Boca— Fabrizio Romano (@FabrizioRomano) April 15, 2021
Meanwhile, the Arteta’s side has a Europa League second leg quarter-final game to win, after a disappointing 1-1 draw at home last week.
