Newcastle United manager Steve Bruce has given an update on the contract situation of Federico Fernandez and Fabian Schar.
Schar, out of contract at the end of the season, was sent off on his comeback from injury in their game against Arsenal on Sunday– and will miss the next three games through suspension with Fernandes current deal expiring in the summer too.
The club has an option to extend Schar’s deal and according to Bruce, they will be sitting the duo down with the hope that they can extend their stay.
“Fab Schar, there’s a clause in his contract that we can extend it, so I believe. All of the decisions are obviously discussions to be had when the season’s done and dusted.
"We’re not done and dusted yet. There are difficult decisions to make, of course at every football club, that’s part and parcel of it. Yes, we’ve got some big decisions to make,” Bruce said after the Arsenal game.
Newcastle currently placed 17th-placed remains nine points above the relegation zone following yesterday’s defeat with Bruce eager to keep his main player as he looks to boost the side with some new faces come summer.
