Arsenal has received a fresh injury blow after manager Mikel Arteta confirmed that defender David Luiz sustained a hamstring injury during the club’s 2-0 Premier League win over Newcastle United on Sunday.
Luiz was making his first appearance after recovering from minor knee surgery but was substituted in the 53rd minute with a muscular concern.
“He (Luiz) felt something in his hamstring, which is not good. It’s a real shame,” Arteta told Football London after the game.
Luiz has been one of the most dependable players at Arsenal when fit and his injury comes at a time when Arsenal are preparing to face Villarreal in the second leg of their Europa League semi-final tie on Thursday night.
The Gunner who will be the hosts' trail 2-1 after the first leg at El Madrigal with the cub set to use the center back partnership of Rob Holding or Calum Chambers in the tie.
Apart from Luiz, it remains to be seen if the club will have the services of Alexandre Lacazette and Kieran Tierney for the Thursday clash.
