Van de Beek has been urged by Ajax director of football Marc Overmars to remain at Manchester United and fight for his position.
Van de Beek has managed just two starts in the Premier League this season, with the last of those coming in December 2020. Overmars believes he can still wrestle his way into Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's plans on a more permanent basis.
"I think Donny should just fight, stay next year, and try to claim a starting place," the ex-Arsenal winger told Dutch broadcaster NOS, via Manchester Evening News.
"You shouldn’t leave so quickly."
Former United goalkeeper Edwin van de Sar has also spoken out on Van de Beek, telling ESPN's Good Morning Eredivisie.
"Of course I feel sad for Donny... the midfield of Manchester United is too stacked, they’ve not had any injuries. It’s hard for him."
The 24-year-old's contract with the Red Devils is set to expire in the summer of 2025.
