FC Barcelona has received a blow in their title quest with news that defender Sergi Roberto suffered a thigh injury in their Tuesday night draw with Levante.
Roberto had to be subbed back off due to discomfort in the game’s final minutes and according to a statement from the club, the player is suffering from discomfort in the tendon of his right rectus femoris.
The thigh injury has been giving him plenty of trouble this season. He first started struggling back in November of 2020, following which he was out for well over two months. The player had returned to action but suffered a relapse of the issue in the club’s 5-3 win over Granada in the Copa del Rey before being sidelined for close to a month once more.
Roberto came on at half-time to replace Ronald Araujo in the game against Levante but had to be taken off in the 84th minute with the club yet to indicate the time frame for his return, but state that he will be assessed in the coming days.
Apart from Roberto, Ronald Araujo, the player initially replaced by Roberto, also suffered a knock during the game.
