Crystal Palace has made an enquiry about the availability of Arsenal utility man Ainsley Maitland-Niles.
Niles spent the second half of last season on loan with West Bromwich Albion, where he played in his preferred central midfield role and the Football.London now reports that Palace is interested in bringing the player to Selhurst Park.
The 23-year-old has two years left on his current Arsenal deal but with first-team chances looking bleak at the Emirates, it is expected that he will leave the club once again in the summer.
According to the reports, Niles wants to leave the club permanently and is already looking for offers with Palace’s sporting director Dougie Freedman said to be an admirer of the England international.
The player has made 128 appearances in his Gunners career, and the majority of those appearances have come in the full-back/wing-back positions.
While he has been used in a number of positions at Arsenal, Niles has always revealed that his favourite position was at the centre of the park something that his club isn’t willing to guarantee considering the players they have at their disposal.
The Gunners turned down £20 million for him from Wolverhampton Wanderers last summer after the intervention of manager Mikel Arteta but a bid by one of the Premier League clubs is expected again this summer.
