Real Sociedad midfielder Mikel Merino is being targeted by FC Barcelona with a view of signing him in the summer.
Merino was a key player for Sociedad as they won the Copa del Rey and qualified for the Europa League via La Liga and according to reports from Onze on Esport3 via Sport, Barça coach Ronald Koeman would love to sign the player.
The attention on Merino has come after the club missed the signature of Gini Wijnaldum who is on his way to Paris Saint Germain. Koeman feels Merino would strengthen his midfield options with the player having a contract with his club until 2025 and a release clause of 60 million euros.
Merino who has Premier League experience with Newcastle United made 36 appearances for Sociedad lasts season and has been a regular with Luis Enrique's Spain squad, too, although an injury at the end of the season means he will miss out on Euro 2020.
