English Premier League side Newcastle United wants to raid Liverpool for the services of defender Nathaniel Phillips this summer.
Manager Steve Bruce wants to improve his defensive line and sees Phillips as a player who could help his side with Daily Mail reporting that the cub has a plan to make a bid in the coming weeks.
The 24-year-old did a relatively good job for the Reds last season owing to the injuries they had in defense when both Virgil Van Dijk and Joe Gomez were ruled out for the remainder of the season.
The reports indicate that Newcastle will attempt the Jurgen Klopp side with an initial offer of around £10 million but face competition from Burnley who wants a defender too should James Tawarkowski leave for West Ham.
Phillips made 17 appearances in the Premier League and helped his side keep seven clean sheets but his chances next season look bleak with the imminent arrival of Ibrahim Konate from RB Leipzig.
Nat Phillips: “I’ve never been so happy to lose a header in my life! I think it’s the only header I’ll ever be happy to lose. We all said we hadn’t seen a header like it. The technique - everything about it was the perfect striker’s header.“ #awlive [liverpool echo] pic.twitter.com/fh0VnQkRw2— Anfield Watch (@AnfieldWatch) June 8, 2021
