Football Italia: Giroud to AC Milan is 'close'

Milan is expected to meet with Chelsea directors today, with the Rossoneri optimistic of agreeing a deal for Olivier Giroud's transfer.

Chelsea has used an option to extend Giroud's contract until June 2022, but the French striker may still depart on a free transfer.

Chelsea vowed to release the 34-year-old if he received a bid from outside the Premier League, according to his agents.

Milan have apparently signed an agreement with the 2018 France World Cup winner for a two-year €4 million a year deal.

Giroud might be signed on a free transfer by the Rossoneri.

According to Calciomercato.com, representatives from the two clubs will meet today to explore a possible transfer for Giroud.

Given that Zlatan Ibrahimovic is currently rehabilitating from a knee injury, Milan will need at least one new striker in 2021-22.

The Swede is undergoing conservative therapy, but if his physical state does not improve by the end of the month, he may need knee surgery, according to a recent article in La Gazzetta dello Sport.
