Marcelo Bielsa set to sign new Leeds deal

Marcelo Bielsa is set to sign a new deal with Leeds United having secured their safety in the Premier League last season.

In an interview with the BBC, the club's chief executive Angus Kinnear admitted that they and the Argentine had agreed on terms to keep the tactician at Elland Road for a fourth season.

"He's certainly very much with Leeds United for next season. I have no doubt as to his commitment and as normal with Marcelo, putting pen to paper is an irrelevance. We agreed on the terms several weeks ago, several months ago perhaps. It's really emotionally and psychologically where he is," Kinnear said.

The 65-year-old has been at Leeds since 2018 and signed a one-year deal 24 hours before the start of the last season in September. He has again waited until the end of the season to decide his future.

Bielsa guided Leeds back to the Premier League after a 16-year absence when they won promotion from the Championship in the 2019-20 season, his second campaign in charge.

His brand of high-tempo, pressing football saw the Whites impress on their top-flight return the last term, eventually finishing ninth.

Leeds open their second season back in the top flight with a mouth-watering clash against rivals Manchester United on 14 August at Old Trafford.
