Former AC Milan defender Alessandro Nesta has praised the great Lionel Messi for 'mentally destroying him.'
Nesta is lauded as one of Italy and the Europeans finest ever defender alongside Paolo Maldini with three Serie A, two UEFA Champions League and a World Cup title.
Having faced some of the greatest ever strikers including Ronaldo de Lima, Nicolas Anelka and Alessandro Del Piero, Nesta has admitted to experiencing his worst ever night against Barcelona's Messi in the UEFA Champions League.
"In the 10th minute I kicked Messi and fell to the ground exhausted, I could see the stars," Nesta told Calciatori Brutti.
"He was already giving me his hand to pull me up. There, he mentally destroyed me.
"Do you understand? I was on the ground and when after two seconds I open my eyes, I see his face with his hand in front that he wanted to help me get up.
"He mentally destroyed me there," he concluded.
