✍️ Messi set to extend Barcelona contract until 2023

Barcelona captain Lionel Messi is set to extend his stay with the club until 2023.

The new deal reportedly includes featuring for David Beckham's Inter Miami on a further two-year deal, before returning to the Catalan club in an off-field role.

The Argentine came close to leaving the boyhood club last summer, following a dismal 2019-20 campaign.

He had a number of public disagreements with the club hierarchy during the time, and was left infuriated after the club allowed Luis Suarez to leave, joining Atletico Madrid.

He was however forced to stay majorly because of his huge release clause, with the club insisting it had to be triggered for him to depart.

The 34-year-old put his troubles aside to impressively lead the Blaugrana's forward-line, scoring 38 goals in 47 appearances across all competitions as they finished third in LaLiga behind the two Madrid clubs.

Barcelona have strengthened their forward line this summer, following the arrival of Memphis Depay and Sergio Aguero on free transfers.
