Messi & co smash Bolivia 4-1 as Uruguay edge out Paraguay

On Monday night, the Copa América group stage action came to a close with two matches.

In Group A, here's how it ended:

Bolivia 1-4 Argentina

Scorers: Saavedra 60′; Gomez 6′, Messi (P) 33′, 42′, Martínez 65′

It was a memorable night for Argentina's great player Lionel Messi, who earned his 148th cap against Bolivia, becoming him the country's all-time appearance maker.

Barcelona responded by setting up Papu Gomez for the game's first goal just six minutes in, then made it 2-0 from the penalty spot.

Bolivia didn't give up lightly and put Argentina's defense to the test, but they were unable to mount a comeback.

Instead, Messi continued to gallop all over their defense and chipped goalkeeper Carlos Lampe from outside the box to make the score 3-0.

After a great counter-attack by Bolivia, Erwin Saavedra pulled one back, but Lautaro Martnez eventually restored Argentina's three-goal lead.

Uruguay 1-0 Paraguay

Scorers: Cavani (P) 21′

Uruguay and Paraguay faced off in a match at the Estádio Olimpico Nilton Santos, with their final group stage placements on the line.

For the majority of the first half, Uruguay was in complete control of the game, launching waves of attack forward.

The breakthrough, though, came when Edinson Cavani scored from the penalty spot to make it 1-0.

Paraguay was then dealt a major setback as top player Miguel Almirón was forced out with a hamstring injury.

In the end, neither team scored in the second half, and Uruguay just did enough to move up to second place in the group.
