According to Football Insider, Aston Villa are interested in re-signing Manchester United defender Axel Tuanzebe as they want to strengthen their central defensive department.
The 23-year-old has previously spent time on loan with the Villans, where he was instrumental in achieving promotion to the Premier League in 2018/19.
He's now a transfer target for the Midlands club, who are looking to fill the vacuum created by Bjorn Engels' move to Royal Antwerp.
The club wants the United graduate to compete with regulars Ezri Konsa and Tyrone Mings, as well as back-up Kortney Hause, for a starting spot.
Last season, the £50,000-a-week star made 19 appearances for United, but only four of them were Premier League starts.
Three of these occurred in May, when Harry Maguire was sidelined and Victor Lindelof was rested in preparation for the Europa League final.
With Maguire, Lindelof, and Eric Bailly ahead of him in the pecking order, he is now the club's fourth-choice centre-back.
United are aggressively looking for a new partner for Maguire next season, and Raphael Varane of Real Madrid is being touted as a possible signing.
Tuanzebe might not receive any minutes if that happens. He could be loaned out for the 2021/2022 campaign, according to reports.
However, at this stage of his career, the 23-year-old may want a permanent move, and Villa would be an attractive alternative.
