Foreign footballers have helped to make the Premier League one of the most popular domestic leagues on the planet.
And Denmark has made a significant contribution in that regard, with Peter Schmeichel going down as arguably the greatest goalkeeper England has ever seen since the top-flight's rebranding to the Premier League in 1992. That was an auspicious year for the great Dane.
So excited for tonight. Come on Denmark 🇩🇰 pic.twitter.com/mKlIraEGVe— Peter Schmeichel (@Pschmeichel1) July 7, 2021
🇩🇰 Notable Danish players to grace the English Premier League:
- 🔵 Thomas Gravesen
- 🔴 Daniel Agger
- 🔴 Jan Mølby
- 🏠 Claus Jensen
- 🔫 John Jensen
- 👑 Nicklas Bendtner
- 🔮 Christian Eriksen
- 😈 Peter Schmeichel
- 🦊 Kasper Schmeichel
Christian Eriksen was one of the cornerstones of an excellent Tottenham Hotspur team that reached the Champions League final in 2019. Eriksen was the creative fulcrum under Mauricio Pochettino, racking up 62 EPL assists in his seven-year stint at the club, putting him 19th all-time in that department. The 29-year-old Inter star will be passionately cheering on his Danish teammates tonight.
Peter Schmeichel, a legendary figure in the respective footballing histories of Denmark and Man United, was a key man during Denmark’s fairytale run to European Championships glory in 1992. His son Kasper won the Premier League in 2016 and added an FA Cup winner's medal to his collection in 2021. He won’t go all the way at Euro 2020, will he?
