Liverpool's initial bid for Atletico Madrid midfielder Saul Niguez has been rejected, according to Mundo Deportivo.
Fabrizio Romano recently revealed that Saul will undoubtedly leave Atletico Madrid this summer, as the Spanish champions are close to signing another midfielder to replace the 26-year-old.
Famous journalist Romano stated on the Here We Go Podcast, "He's [Saul's] leaving Atletico Madrid this summer because they're signing Rodrigo De Paul."
He suggested that Liverpool are among a slew of Premier League clubs keeping a close eye on Saul's situation at Atletico.
According to Mundo Deportivo, Liverpool's offer of €40 million (£34.2 million) for Saul was rejected by Atletico, who are looking for a bid closer to €50 million (£42.7 million) for the midfielder.
According to the report, there is still hope for Saul to join Liverpool, though the Reds will now face competition from Barcelona for his signature.
