Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was impressed with Man United's performance against Derby County in their first pre-season match played on Sunday afternoon.
Goals from Tahith Chong and Facundo Pellistri on either half were enough to give Ole's side a comfortable win, with Colin Kazim-Richards replying for the Rams.
Speaking after the game, Ole said the win will boost the young players' morale, ahead of the new season.
"I think you can see that they [Derby] maybe a week ahead of us in their pre-season," Solskjaer told MUTV post-match.
"It was the first game for us, and it takes a little bit of time to get into that match mode. But we've won the game and it's good for these kids to feel that they've won the game."
Chong impressed in the opening 45 minutes and will hope he continues with the same at Birmingham City, where he will be out on loan.
"He did well to win the ball and I thought maybe he should have finished far corner," Ole commented, "but well done to keep going and he's got the talent so good luck for his time at Birmingham."
Solskjaer further praised Pellistri's goal, which was assisted by another youngster Shola Shoretire.
"A very good goal," Solskjaer said of the Uruguayan's strike.
"A good pass [from Shoretire] as you say, his first touch sets him up and he's very good at dribbling and he's composed, so there's no trouble going past the 'keeper. It thought he was bright."
This was United's first pre-season match, with four more lined up. Next will be a clash against former Premier League side QPR.
