Barcelona ready to terminate Umtiti's contract

FC Barcelona are willing to terminate the contract of defender Samuel Umtiti as they seek to ease their wage bill.

Despite allowing Messi to leave and some senior players of the team agreeing to take a pay cut, Barca still needs more space in the team to sign players who will not demand too much money.

The players who have been put on sale include midfielder Miralem Pjanic who is on the verge of joining Juventus and Umtiti. While the former looks like to leave, the Frenchman is adamant that he won't be going anywhere according to reports from SPORT.

According to the reports, Umtiti has been given a chance to terminate his deal but he refused as he wants to find a club that matches the current ages he gets at Barca.

The 27 year old was given an opportunity by Ronald Koeman in the first two pre-season but failed to impress with his manager had informed him that he was a surplus to requirements to the team.

As per the report, Barca has informed Umtiti to select one of the offers that have arrived for him before the end of the week. If he fails to do so, the Catalans are now prepared to unilaterally terminate his contract, even if it might leave them open for legal action from the defender.

The Catalans have already gone that route with Matheus Fernandes this summer. The Brazilian midfielder had his contract terminated by the club, post which he signed for Palmeiras and launched legal proceedings against the Catalans.
