French legend Thierry Henry has suggested that Lionel Messi has a right to refuse to get substituted off during a football match.
Paris Saint Germain star delivered a very awkward exchange between him and his manager Mauricio Pochettino as he got substituted last Sunday.
The Parc des Princes stadium and social media spaces were hugely struck when the 34-year-old was taken off after 76 minutes in PSG's 2-1 Ligue 1 win over Olympique Lyon.
Messi's facial expression and allegedly refused to shake his manager's hand created huge drama.
Thierry Henry has since been asked whether the event caught him unawares.
"No, not really. It does not surprise me," Henry said via Amazon Prime.
"Maybe he didn’t want to go out. We don’t know what they’re saying to each other. Let’s not start the controversy. He surely wanted to stay on the pitch so he could score. It will come, it will come quietly.
"It takes time to adapt even for the best player in the world," he concluded.
