Kepa breaks Chelsea penalty shoot-out record

Chelsea keeper Kepa Arrizabalaga etched his name into the club's history books with his penalty save against Aston Villa on Wednesday night.

The save took the Spaniard to seven the total number of such heroics, which is a record for most penalty stops by a Chelsea keeper in shoot-outs.

Kepa’s strong right hand to palm Marvelous Nakamba’s spot-kick away moved him clear of Petr Cech in the all-time rankings.

Here is the ranking;

  • Kepa – seven shoot-out saves
  • Petr Cech – six saves
  • Kevin Hitchcock – four saves
  • Ed De Goey – two saves
  • Eddie Niedzwiecki – two saves
  • Willy Caballero – one save
  • Hilario – one save
  • Ross Turnbull – one save
