Chelsea and Brazil star defender Thiago Silva has expressed sympathy with Neymar regarding his international retirement hint.
As widely reported in the media this week, Neymar suggested he could retire from representing Brazil next year. The 29-year-old told a media outlet that next year’s World Cup could be his last.
Thiago has since commented to say that these thoughts are part of a player’s ups and downs, something he had experienced for himself in the past.
"Here at the national team, I have gone through some moments that are very similar (with what Neymar is going through), especially after 2014 World Cup," he said, according to Goal.
"I was called a cry baby, weak, very weak, mentally. These are things that hurt you and you know that you are not what you have been called.
"I hope he doesn't lose his joy, continue to be happy the way he always is. He is a very special kid and, when he's happy, doing what he loves, he delivers."
Meanwhile, Silva and the Blues are focused on the Premier League trip to newcomers Brentford this weekend.
