Lukaku was thinking about Chelsea transfer while at Man United, reveals agent

Romelu Lukaku's agent has revealed the Belgian was thinking about a move to Chelsea in his final season at Manchester United.

Lukaku returned to Chelsea last summer from Inter Milan for a reported fee of £97million. The Blues had attempted to sign the Belgian in 2017 when Antonio Conte was in charge but the striker opted to join Jose Mourinho at United in a £75m deal from Everton.

The 28-year-old spent just two seasons as he lost form and confidence in the final season and found an escape route as he signed for Inter Milan. The Blues reignited their interest and resigned the star man following the departure of Conte.

Speaking to Sky Sports, Lukaku's agent Federico Pastorello revealed the player was contemplating a return to the west London club long before the summer.

"During his last season at Man United he always had Chelsea in his head," he said.

"Real Madrid as well I have to admit. That is another dream of his in terms of imagining his career, but Chelsea was always 100 percent his target."

"They were the love of his childhood so there was always this desire to come back. It was a question of pride. He had that in his head and his heart."

Summer move

"The market can offer you certain opportunities. I consider them like trains passing and when the right train stops at the right place, you need to step in and leave," said Pastorello.

"I could tell summer 2021 would be an important market for him. Three or four top clubs were looking for important strikers and on the market, there was not one for each club."

On his return, Lukaku netted four goals in his first four matches in a Chelsea shirt. He has however endured a six-game run without seeing the back of the net before he picked up an ankle injury in the Champions League against Malmo.
