Denis Onyango on how he’s remained top class at 36

In a country with a plethora of superb goalkeeping talent, Mamelodi Sundowns’ Denis Onyango is still the best in the land.

The Ugandan star delivered his latest masterclass last weekend to help the side to an MTN8 trophy.

After the game ended locked at 1-1 after extra time, Onganyo stepped up to the penalty kicks to save an extraordinary four spot-kicks.

The 36-year-old has since been asked how he manages to perform fabulously at his age….

"He (Robinson) [Sundowns keeper coach] knows how to manage me and Kennedy (Mweene) and as goalkeepers, we try and get maximum rest and try to look after ourselves because it is our duty so that we stay in the game a little longer,” Onyango, nicknamed “Umnyango” (the door), told Kick Off.

"With the help of the younger ones, we manage to keep up with the pace and we want to drag this thing as long as we can because it is our job and the more, we look after our bodies, stay focused and help the team win trophies, the more we keep earning for our families.

“So, I think the way we look after ourselves individually at home and on the pitch keeps us going as players," says Onyango who has the older Mweene as his main competition,” he concluded.
