📊 Mini stat previews

Austria vs Moldova

Austria beat Israel 4-2 on Friday and we should expect them to win this one against lowly Moldova, even though motivation might be an issue, considering that they've missed out on a playoff place. Moldova has lost six games in a row and the Austrians should put them to the sword.

Israel vs the Faroe Islands

Israel has failed to reach the World Cup again, which is a shame as their matches always seem to be entertaining. They've scored 20 goals in nine qualifiers but also conceded 19, evidence that their matches are high-scoring affairs. Each of Israel's last seven qualifiers has seen at least three goals scored, with the reverse fixture seeing the Faroe Islands take a 4-0 thumping. The Faroes have only scored five goals in nine qualifiers but they may be able to sign off with one more souvenir strike here in what's likely to be another defeat.

Northern Ireland vs Italy

Italy hasn't conceded a single goal in any of their last eight away games in all competitions (W6 D2), facing 64 shots and 19 on target, with an xG against of 4.7 in these games. We expect them to gun for a fast start here as they aim to guarantee top spot in Group C, by virtue of a two-goal differential to Switzerland.

Poland vs Hungary

Poland has no realistic chance of moving above England to the top of Group I, but they at least have the play-off spot in the bag. The Poles are unbeaten in six straight games, which were all qualifiers (W5 D1). In the reverse fixture, before this sequence, the two teams drew 3-3 and the hosts should remain motivated to get a win and hope for other results to go their way.

Switzerland vs Bulgaria

Jorginho's stoppage-time penalty miss against Switzerland on Fridaykept both sides tied on 15 points (W4, D3) at the top of Group C with one game to go. Italy boasts a two-goal differential, which could prove decisive, yet they travel to Northern Ireland and won't have things all their own way. The incentive for Switzerland is clear - win the match by a big margin and hope for other things to go their way. Bulgaria's last two defeats to the Swiss came via the exact same 3-1 scoreline, with both games producing over 1.5 goals before half-time. Three of Bulgaria’s last four matches have produced a goal in the 30’-39’ period, as have Switzerland's last two fixtures so that's definitely an area to be watching.
