🏥 Xavi denies reports Aguero is to retire

Xavi has disputed that striker Sergio Aguero has been forced to retire.

On Saturday, it was reported that the Argentina international would make a press conference next week to reaffirm his decision not to play again.

Aguero hasn't played since a 1-1 draw with Deportivo Alaves at Camp Nou on October 30, when he was forced off after feeling dizzy and experiencing significant chest trouble.

Xavi, who led Barcelona to a 1-0 victory over Espanyol in his debut match in charge, stated that Aguero's retirement had not been verified.

"What's come out isn't true," he told reporters.

"I spoke with him, he's calm and happy. I asked him to come back when he was feeling okay."

Barca later revealed that he would be out for three months while doctors investigated a possible cardiovascular condition. In response to reports that he will be unable to continue playing, the 33-year-old tweeted on November 12 that he was "always positive."

On Espanyol...

Barca's triumph over their city rivals was clinched by Memphis Depay's penalty, but they rode their luck in the final moments as Raul de Tomas twice hit the post and Landry Dimata headed a wonderful chance for an equalize wide.

"I'm very happy with the three points and the effort of the players," said Xavi.

"We're not in the best of spirits and Espanyol created a lot of problems for us. And we deserved the luck with the posts.

"I'm happy, and I think it was a deserved victory. What couldn't fail, which was the attitude, didn't fail."
