🚨 Champions League: Manchester City beat PSG to storm Round of 16

Manchester City booked their place in the Champions League knockout phase with a 2-1 win over PSG in an entertaining clash played at the Etihad on Wednesday night.

Second-half goals from Raheem Sterling and Gabriel Jesus gave Pep Guardiola's side the win, avenging their 2-0 loss in the reverse fixture in Paris.

Kylian Mbappe scored the consolation for Mauricio Pochettino's side, who will now qualify in second spot.

Action

Manchester City threatened first in the 5th minute when Rodri drifted into the box to meet a free-kick and planted a header towards the right post only for Kimpempe to clear it off the line.

Riyad Mahrez then came closest again in the 18th minute after he controlled a fine pass into the box and fired the ball to the left post, but his effort was brilliantly blocked.

City then hit the post just after the half-hour mark when Ilkay Gundogan got a chance to shoot, but his shot crashed against the post as PSG survived.

Keylor Navas was then called into action in the 35th minute when the lively Mahrez placed a shot from the edge of the box towards the bottom left corner, but the shot-stopper made a terrific save to deny him.

It was the Parisians who took the lead five minutes into the second half when Mbappe pounced on a loose ball inside the box and beat the goalkeeper with a low shot into the middle of the net.

City pressed hard for the equalizer and it arrived in the 63rd minute as Sterling got to the ball in front of the goal and unleashed a low drive in off the left-hand post.

Neymar then missed a great chance to hand his side the lead once more in the 74th minute, firing just wide of the left post from inside the box after running onto a splendid pass from Angel Di Maria.

They were meant to pay for the miss two minutes later as City took the lead when Bernando Silva and Jesus combined beautifully for the latter to finish.

City controlled the match from that point onwards, keeping their visitors at bay as they protected their lead.

They held on to win the match, which also ensured they topped the group ahead of PSG.
