Al Ahly coach Pitso Mosimane has said facing Mamelodi Sundowns in the CAF Champions League will just be another game, but will it be really?
As CAF confirmed this weekend, Al Ahly have been drawn in the same group as Mosimane’s former club Sundowns, a side he left under a rather dark cloud.
“It’s a game of football, we have to play against each other. I think it was the same when I was with Mamelodi Sundowns before,” Mosimane said at the event.
“I played Wydad (Casablanca) about eight times even with Zamalek when I was at Sundowns I played them about six times, so you will always meet these big teams in the group or in the knockout phases.
The former Bafana Bafana coach concluded to say it will be ‘good to return to his homeland.’
“Yes, they are a good team, interesting games, its Champions League. No it is not about Mamelodi Sundowns, it’s about the whole group and whoever is in the group. If we find Sundowns, we play them, if we find Zamalek, we play them. It doesn’t matter who you find in the group, the group is the group. And yes, why not? It will be good to go home to South Africa and see the country again,” he concluded.
Meanwhile, Ahly are now looking ahead to battling Mexican giants Monterrey in the FIFA Club World Cup in February.
