Kieran Trippier could be back in the Premier League soon after Newcastle submitted an official bid for the Atletico Madrid defender.
Trippier is seen as an ideal candidate to strengthen Newcastle's backline, with Eddie Howe a huge admirer.
Speaking on Saturday, Atletico Madrid manager Diego Simeone all but seemed to have confirmed the transfer.
"Trippier now has to decide if he wants to leave or not," said Atletico boss Diego Simeone. "We will move on his decision."
Trippier left England in 2019 after playing for Tottenham for four years and won the LaLiga title last season.
He has made 19 appearances for the Spanish League defending champions this season, even though their title defense could amount to nothing as they have fallen 15 points behind leaders and city rivals, Real Madrid.
Chelsea have also been linked with the England international, who has been capped 35 times.
