Tuchel discusses Lukaku's performance, asks him to do more

Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel has cautioned Romelu Lukaku that he cannot complain about his teammates' lack of service because he must also create chances for them.

Lukaku has scored just five Premier League goals this season since his £97.5 million return to Chelsea, and he drew an ugly blank on Saturday as his Blues were defeated 1-0 by Manchester City.

The Belgium international missed a few good chances during the game, but he often cut a solitary figure up top, annoyed by the lack of service into him.

Tuchel, on the other hand, advised him that if he wants to see things change, he needs to get more engaged in the game and be more useful when he does get the ball.

"Lukaku sometimes needs to do the service, he is included in this, he had many ball losses in very promising circumstances, he had a huge chance," Tuchel said after the game.

"Of course, we want to serve him, but he is part of the team, and the performance upfront, we can do much better."

He continued: "We had eight or nine transition chances but we didn't get a touch in the box. I was unhappy about this. We can miss chances and I am not unhappy about that. The decision-making and timing was not what we need at this level of football."

Tuchel, who thought Chelsea deserved a point from the encounter, admitted that his players were simply not up to level with their City counterparts.

"I think we lost on individual performance and on one situation today," he stressed. "In terms of attitude, commitment, defensive-wise, I am happy.

"We did not allow too many big chances, kept them to a minimum and we were aware and active with our defending."
