๐Ÿšจ AFCON 2021: Burkina Faso beat Gabon in epic penalty shootout to book quarter-final spot

Burkina Faso booked their place in the quarter-finals of the Africa Cup of Nations courtesy after beating Gabon on penalties on Sunday evening.

Having missed a penalty, the Aston Villa forward beautifully found the back of the net in the 28th minute when he got to the ball and unleashed a strong shot from distance, and the effort found its way into the bottom left corner, beating Jean-Noel Amonome for a 1-0 lead.

Burkina Faso started the match on the right note and could have taken a 15th-minute lead when Sidney Obissa committed a rough foul inside the box, and referee Jiyed Redouane awarded them a penalty.

Trarore could not find the back of the net though as his effort crashed against the crossbar.

The former Chelsea star however made up for his mistake when he gave the Burkinabe the lead just before the half-hour break.

Gabon were reduced to 10 men in the 67th minute when Sidney Obissa made a bad challenge and received a second yellow card from Jiyed Redouane.

Traore came close to scoring twice after Gabon were reduced to 10 men, and they were meant to pay deep in injury time as an Adam Guira own goal made it 1-1.

The match was forced into extra time, and with no winning goal, the match was decided by penalties.

Abdoul Tapsoba and Simpore missed Burkina Faso's penalties, while Yannis N'Gakoutou, Guelor Kanga and Lloyd Palun missed their efforts for Gabon.
