Arsenal have moved closer to agreeing on a loan deal for Juventus star Arthur Melo.
The midfielder is top of Mikel Arteta's plans at the Emirates and was looking to take him on loan for an initial six months.
Juventus however wanted a longer limit in order to lessen the burden on their wage bill, forcing the Gunners to accept an 18-month period.
Melo has been underwhelming at Juventus ever since arriving from Barcelona in a deal that took Miralem Pjanic to the Catalan club.
The Brazillian is said to be eager for a new challenge elsewhere and has welcomed the Gunners' interest.
This comes even as Arteta admitted it is not easy completing transfers in January.
“The market is difficult, it's complicated. New signings? Yes, we are certainly trying. I don't know if we'll be able to do it, but let's see," he admitted on Friday.
Juventus are ready to also offload one other midfielder in former Arsenal star Aaron Ramsey, who has attracted a number of Premier League clubs.
