🚨 History written as Musa Barrow sends Gambia through to AFCON quarter-finals

Musa Barrow scored the only goal of the match as Gambia stunned Guinea 1-0 in an Africa Cup of Nations last-16 match played on Monday evening.

In a match that had few clear chances at the Kouekong Stadium, it was the Scorpions who seemed likely to score.

The first open chance fell to Mohamed Bayo in the 39th minute when he picked up a rebound after chaos in the box and directed a sweet strike towards the bottom left corner, but was expertly denied by a stunning save.

They came close again just before the break as Barrow sprayed a wonderful pass out to Ebrima Darboe, but his effort did not get enough power or direction to cause Aly Keita problems and the goalkeeper watched as the ball rolled out wide.

They finally got the breakthrough in the 71st minute when Yusupha Bobb slipped the ball through to Barrow, and he darted into the box to unleash a magnificent shot into the bottom left corner.

Guinea thought they had equalised when Ibrahima Conte scored in the 77th minute, but his effort was ruled out for offside.

Gambia were however forced to finish the match with 10 men, after Yusupha Njie was shown a second yellow card for a poor challenge, ending the match for him.

Guinea were also reduced to 10 men as Conte, just like Njie received a second warning.

The Scorpions held on to win the match and join Burkina Faso and Tunisia in the last eight in their first-ever appearance at the competition.
