Super Mario is back. Italy have recalled Mario Balotelli to the national team after a four-year absence.
The news was revealed this week as the striker will reunite with Roberto Mancini, the coach that gave Balotelli his professional debut at Inter Milan in 2007.
So what’s the major motivation for the call-up? Well, the 31-year-old Balotelli has scored 14 goals in 21 appearances for Turkish side Adana Demirspor this term.
The former Manchester City and Liverpool maverick has since reacted to the call-up - and he has done so in true Mario form.
"I'm good and I'm in a good mood," Balotelli told Bresciaingol.
"At 31 years old, playing for the national team should be normal, abnormality is not being there.
"I hope Italy qualify for the World Cup, they deserve it. I don't know why they are in the play-offs, but it can happen,” he concluded.
The Azzurri will take on North Macedonia in the 2022 World Cup qualifiers play-offs in March.
