Michail Antonio nominated for Concacaf Player of the Year award

West Ham United striker Michail Antonio has been nominated for the CONCACAF Player of the Year award.

Concacaf announced the new format to the awards, with the fan vote only being used for the player-of-the-year awards for both men and women.

Antonio is the favorite to win the gong as he is leading Jamaica’s scoring in the final round of World Cup qualification with three goals from six games. He has also been on the scoresheet eight times for West Ham, along with six assists.

Antonio is joined on the list by two Canadians, Jonathan David (Lille) and Alphonso Davies (Bayern Munich), as well as two players from the USA in Christian Pulisic (Chelsea) and Weston McKennie (Juventus).

There will be a total of 100 votes for the category, with each Concacaf member association getting a vote each from its head coach and its national senior team captain. Those votes from the teams amount to 82 votes, with another nine votes coming from the media in the Concacaf region.
