Mikel Arteta frustrated with a congested fixture list

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has been left frustrated by fixture congestion that his club has been subjected to.

The Gunners who are chasing a top-four spot will play three times in seven days next month. They have a short turnaround before facing Aston Villa on Saturday lunchtime, giving Arteta’s side just three days rest after the defeat to Liverpool on Wednesday night.

Arteta is further dismayed by the fact that the rearranged Premier League fixtures for April see his side play Chelsea and Manchester United in the space of a few days.

When asked about the fixture pile, Arteta sarcastically said: “Thank you so much to the Premier League to do that. And they’ve done it again when we have to play Chelsea and Manchester United. So if they want to give them an advantage, I say to them today: ‘Thank you so much for doing that.

“Don’t worry the players on Saturday will be there, with energy. They will eat, sleep well, but thank you so much to the Premier League for putting the fixtures like this. Very, very helpful.”

Arsenal are battling for the final Champions League spot in the Premier League table, with just a one-point advantage over United and a three-point gap to West Ham and Spurs.
